The chip industry backs the potential of Valencia’s universities

Valencia has established itself as a benchmark for the microchip industry thanks to the training offered by the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV) and the University of Valencia (UV). Lynette Ng, Deputy Corporate Head of Human Resources at semiconductor giant TSMC, yesterday highlighted the talent pool in Valencia, thanks to the wide range of learning opportunities offered by the city’s universities. The regional government yesterday highlighted its importance in the industry at the second Valencia Silicon Forum, organised by the Valencia Silicon Cluster association with the support of Valencia City Council.

The Valencian Community occupies a privileged position in the sector, accounting for 60 per cent of Spanish research and industrial design in microchips and semiconductors, as well as 50 per cent of human resources specialising in microelectronics and 60 per cent in integrated photonics, with more than 600 highly skilled jobs.

Lynette Ng participated in the conference alongside other leading experts such as José Capmany (founding partner of Ipronics) and Pascual Muñoz (co-founder of VLC Photonics and Hybpic). The human resources executive works for Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, the world’s largest chip manufacturer. The Taiwan-based company is building a large semiconductor production factory in Dresden, Germany, alongside Bosch, Infineon and NXP.
