Technologist, researcher, and entrepreneu
Cesc Guim is a technologist, researcher, and entrepreneur with a PhD in Architecture and Computer Science. He began his career at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center, where he spent five years researching high-performance computing and authored over sixty peer-reviewed papers. In 2008, he joined Intel, initially focusing on CPU architecture, modeling, and design, where he spent seven years deepening his expertise in microarchitecture. Around 2015, Guim transitioned into system architecture, leading initiatives in platform orchestration, power, and thermal management. He rose to become a Senior Principal Engineer and Chief System Architect within Intel’s Network & Edge CTO Office, heading a global team developing architectures across industrial, networking, transportation, and edge systems.
A prolific innovator, Guim has filed or been granted over 500 patents and has been repeatedly recognized as one of Intel’s top inventors. His later work emphasized sustainable computing, including carbon-aware system design and next-generation edge platforms. In 2024, he became CEO of Openchip, a Barcelona-based company dedicated to advancing semiconductor and system design for AI, HPC, and European technology sovereignty.
Through his career, Francesc has consistently bridged deep technical insight — uniting hardware and software innovation to tackle real-world system challenges and shape the future of computing.
