Founder of Tiny Tapeout
Matt Venn is an electronic engineer and science communicator who has spent the last five years at the forefront of the open source silicon movement — making chip design accessible to anyone. His Zero to ASIC Course has taken over 700 students from first principles to fabricated silicon. He founded Tiny Tapeout, a shuttle service that has put more than 3,000 designs onto 20 multi-project chips — radically lowering the barrier to getting custom silicon made.
Through his Tiny Tapeout Workshops, delivered to audiences around the world, Matt brings chip design into the hands of complete beginners — including high school students completing their first tapeout in a single day. No prior experience required.
In 2026, he received the European Open Source Award for Skills & Education in recognition of his work democratising semiconductor design. He is an IEEE Senior Member.
